
Fisker Automotive claimed today that it has raised $189 million and enabling them to startup the launch of their plug-in hybrid Karma sports car this year. The total raised included $35 milion of private equity and $115 million Fisker, said it secured in January
The company production started needed to raised their targeted fund to receive $528.7 million US Energy Department loan geared toward their next generation battery technology development, one which received approval last year. This fund will also help Fisker to begin production by 2012 of the 2nd model, plug-in Nina sedan worth $39,000 at General Motors plant in Wilmington, Del.
The main objective of Fisker is to produce cars that either consume little or no fuel with the use of fully electric powertrains, or using both combination of electric motors with petrol range extenders. Fisker will build cars in Finland via Valmet automotive and will be selling the Fisker Karma at approximately $89,000. The Karma’s lithium-ion batteries will be supplied by A123 Systems Inc.
Fisker Karma is able to travel 80 kilometres with 1 charge, and spurred by petrol generator which able to extend the range of vehicle to maximum 400 kilometres.
