Toyota announced that they had designed a new supplemental restraint system as an additional to the several other airbags in packages. A rear-seat center airbag is designed to deploy from a center console that runs parallel with the passengers, and is designed to reduce injuries from passengers knocking into each other during a car crash.
Toyota mentioned that it will initially available for Japan models but will filter out to U.S models in future.
