A study by The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration showed that nearly 1 in every 5 fatal accidents involving a vehicle with a missing airbag. The study took a 1,446 fatal accidents between 2001 and 2006, and found that 255 instances, or nearly 18 percent of vehicles were because of lack airbags either not been replaced the following accident. The agency also found crashes where airbags had been improperly installed, thus failed to deploy during the accident.

The study showed that some of cases are because of fraud, while other results are from botched repair jobs from unskilled technicians. Last year, the NPR reported that some dealers and repair shops stuffed air bag compartments with aluminium cans, packaging peanuts, or even paper. These are very dangerous and might kill 1000 of lives that could have been saved. What more is the is no laws preventing this dealership from happening.
What I want to point out is, do not purchase thecar if you know it does not have airbags. If you know your car has been involved in collision, get the air bags inspected as it could be saving the one life. Have a gut feeling to have your vehicle a check.
